A Breathtaking Landscape

As you ascend Mount Elgon, you will be greeted by a diverse landscape that includes lush montane forests, rugged cliffs, and cascading waterfalls. The mountain is home to a variety of flora and fauna, making it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and botanists alike.

The Caldera

5 Days Mount Elgon Hiking

Day 1: Nairobi – Kitale, 250 m, Altitude Gain, 387 Km

A journey from Nairobi to Kitale awaits. An exciting and rewarding adventure, this 7-hour drive will take you past the picturesque terrain of the magical Kenya countryside. Suppose you will be using Public Transport; the stopover will be at Eldoret but with a bathroom break in Nakuru city. If on private transport, you will have a lunch stopover at Nakuru Town for an early lunch break. You’ll travel three hours until reaching Eldoret before your final hour stretch into Kitale Town. Check-in at Westside Hotel. Westside Hotel is a tranquil stay with a swimming pool at your disposal. Spend at the hotel relaxing after such an eventful day with Travel. Dinner and overnight in Westside Hotel.

Day 2: Kitale Town – Chorlim Gate – Mutamaiyu Campsite, 250 M, Altitude Gain, 31 Km

Begin the day with breakfast at 0700hrs served in the hotel restaurant. Check-out at 0900hrs and accompany the guide and crew. En route to Chorlim Gate, it takes 45 minutes – 1 hour of travel time before reaching the gate. Formalities such as checking-in and park entrance fees will take place. Afterward, take a thrilling two-hour walk through an enchanting forest teeming with unique native trees and vibrant bird populations! to Endebess Bluff. Lunch will be served here. Later on, Embark on a two hours adventure trek to Mutamaiyu campsite at 2800 M ASL, our home for the night. Dinner and overnight at Mutamaiyu Campsite.

Day 3: Mutamaiyu camp 2800m ASL – Road End 3450m ASL 650 M Altitude Gain 18 Km

Wake up early in the morning and prepare for a delicious breakfast from 0730hrs! Then, it’s off on an amazing adventure with your picnic lunch. Enjoy scenic nature walks as melodious tweets from intriguing birds along the way spice up the journey. It will take about 4-5 hours of trekking through Mutamaiyu camp to Road End. On arrival, evening tea will be served. Dinner and finally ending around a cozy bonfire under beautiful night skies. The following day promises even more excitement while attempting the summit from this special spot.

Day 4: Road End Camp (3500m Asl- 4222m)-Koitoboss (4221m ASL) and Mutamaiyu Camp (2800m ASL) 24 Kilometers, 722 M Altitude Gain.

Rise and shine. It’s time to take on the Summit push-up to Koitoboss Peak! Early morning coffee, tea, or chocolate served with some biscuits at 0345hrs before trekking up the peak. The climb from Road End to Koitoboss Peak is about 4km. The trek up the summit normally takes about 3hrs. The ascent up Koitoboss is almost similar to the Barranco wall in Mount Kilimanjaro. The Barranco Wall is part of the Lemosho, Machame, and Umbwe routes. Tackling the challenging Koitoboss Peak requires an age-old mountaineering approach. Take small steps and a consistent pace! In good weather and if you are lucky, you can witness a spectacular sunrise at the break of dawn. Trekkers on a mission to conquer the Ugandan Peak can set their sights beyond the horizon and continue trekking toward its iconic heights! After a session of capturing the memories, we start the descent back to Road Head for Breakfast. After breakfast, a trek toward Mutamaiyu will be our home for the night. Dinner and overnight at Mutamaiyu Campsite.

Day 5: Mutamaiyu Camp – Kitale – Nairobi 418 Kilometers

Early breakfast at 0500hrs, then embarks on a 2 hours journey to Chorlim gate. Suppose you missed exploringthe visit to Kitum and, Making’eny caves on the first day. It’s possible to do it on this last day. Kitum cave isone of the biggest Caves in Africa. After this short excursion, wrap up your adventure trek with an earlylunch at Chorlim Gate. After lunch, connect with transport to Kitale Town and eventually to Nairobi.It will take 6-7 hours from Kitale by car back home.
